Cougars End Conference Season with Win on Senior Night

On May 18, Campbellsport softball beat NFDL 11-5 at home on senior night for Ayla Garvey, Olivia McCarty, Kaylie Jandre, Gracie Schwarz, and Peyton Hall.
Campbellsport’s (19-5, 12-2) Ava Sabish led off the first inning with a double to spark the Cougars to four runs, featuring a two-run RBI double from McKenna Loehr, an RBI single from Olivia McCarty, and a RBI double from Kaylie Jandre to take a 4-0 lead over NFDL (6-14, 5-9).
Sabish hit her second double of the game before Emma Muraski hit a RBI double with two outs to increase the Cougars’ lead to 5-0.
NFDL scored five runs in the third inning to tie the game with Campbellsport, but the Cougars showed their winning mettle by responding with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Loehr led off the third inning with a single, then McCarrty hit a RBI double before Gracie Schwarz hit a three-run home run over the center field fence to give the Cougars a 9-5 lead.
The Cougars got another home run in the fifth inning when Sabish blasted the ball over the center field fence, and Loehr knocked in the last run of the game with a RBI single to increase the Campbellsport lead to 11-5.
McKenna Loehr, Gracie Schwarz, and Olivia McCarty combined to drive in eight runs in the conference victory.
At Oakfield
On May 16, Campbellsport softball defeated Poynette 4-0 to win their second game of the day at Oakfield
Campbellsport (19-5) scored two runs in the first inning, featuring a two-run RBI single by McKenna Loehr to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead over Poynette (16-5).
The Cougars were able to score two more runs in the sixth inning after two outs, highlighted by a Kaylie Jandre RBI single to increase their lead to 4-0.
Ava Sabish pitched a shutout, complete game to give the Cougars a 4-0 non-conference victory.
“Ava pitched a gem against the second-ranked team in division three by not allowing a hit after the second inning,” said Head Coach Dan Heisdorf.
Campbellsport softball lost 8-3 to Waupun in their first game of the day at Oakfield.
Taylor Schladweiler started the third inning with a leadoff single, and Emma Muraski hit an RBI single with two outs to give Campbellsport (18-5) a 1-0 lead over Waupun (20-2).
Waupun would score a total of six runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 6-1 lead over the Cougars.
Muraski hit a double in the fifth inning to help load the bases, then Olivia McCarty hit a two-run RBI single to right field to close the gap on the scoreboard to 6-3.
The Warriots tacked on two runs in the sixth inning to push their lead to 8-3, which turned out to be the winning margin for Waupun over Campbellsport.
Emma Muraski was the offensive highlight with four hits for the Cougars in the non-conference matchup.
At Lomira
On May 14, Campbellsport softball lost 11-2 to Lomira on the road, ending their nine-game winning streak in the battle for the Flyway Conference Championship.
Campbellsport (19-5, 12-2) got on the scoreboard first in the second inning with a Reyse Steffen RBI double to take a 1-0 lead over Lomira (20-2, 13-1).
Ava Sabish led off the third inning with a double to center field before Emam Muraski hit a double to right field to drive in Sabish to increase their lead to 2-0 over the Lions.
Lomira scored its first run off an RBI double from Lily Christian in the bottom of the third inning to cut into the Cougars’ lead at 2-1.
Izzy Westphal hit a double for the Lions, then Christian hit an RBI double to tie the game at two in the fifth inning.
The Lions took the lead in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Haleigh Caspary, giving Lomira their first lead of the game at 3-2.
The turning point of the game was an 11-pitch at-bat in the sixth inning for Christian against Cougars Olivia McCarty, with both players not wanting to give in to the other for their respective teams.
Christian won the battle with a looping single over first base, landing in right field, driving in two runs with her single to push the Lions’ lead to 5-2 over the Cougars.
Lomira would go on to score six more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the 11-2 victory over Campbellsport in the matchup of the Flyway Conference’s two best teams on the season.
Reyse Steffen, Emma Muraski, and Ava Sabish each hit doubles in the game for the Cougars.
Vs WLA
On May 12, Campbellsport softball beat Winnebago Lutheran Academy 5-4 at home in a dramatic fashion with a seventh-inning comeback to stay tied in first place in the Flyway Conference.
WLA (11-8, 8-5) scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-0 lead over Campbellsport (19-5, 12-2) during a windy game day.
Campbellsport got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning when Emma Muraski scored with two outs, making the score 4-1 in favor of the Vikings.
The Cougars got a leadoff single in the seventh inning from senior Kaylie Jandre, and freshman Taylor Schaldweiler followed with a single to set up the top of the batting order for Campbellsport.
Ava Sabish hit a RBI double, and Peyton Hall hit a RBI single to tighten the game up at 4-3 for the Cougars with no outs in the seventh inning.
Campbellsport loaded the bases with zero outs, which allowed Mackenzie Helsell to hit a Sac Fly to tie the game at four.
The Cougars loaded the bases again with one out, and Olivia McCarty got her fourth hit of the game with a hard hit up the middle to drive in the winning run, sending the Cougars into celebration with an important walk-off conference win.
Olivia McCarty, Ava Sabish, Emma Muraski, and Taylor Schladweiler combined for ten hits in the home conference victory for the Cougars.
“We scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to steal a 5-4 win against a good, pesky WLA team,” said Head Coach Dan Heisdorf.
Campbellsport softball hosted Random Lake on May 19 after print time.
The Cougars received a four seed and will host the five-seed Two Rivers in the WIAA Division 2 Softball Tournament in the second round on May 26.
