On Jan. 30, Campbellsport girls wrestling finished in sixth place with 85.5 points at the Stark Invitational at Whitefish Bay High School to wrap up their regular season schedule.
The Cougars were led by Emersen Wissnik’s first-place finish and Irelyn Woolhether’s second-place finish at the Stark Invite.
“The girls were in peak form today, and I was very pleased with our sixth place, which just missed the top five by a point,” said Head Coach Dan Heisdorf.
“Emersen is on a roll with her confidence is through the roof right now, and she pinned the number 1 (returning state qualifier) and 2 seeds to finish in first place,” said Heisdorf.
“Irelyn got a big semifinal win against a wrestler who she will see again at regionals, to get that mental edge is huge,” said Heisdorf.
“Mya wrestled the best I have seen her wrestle all year with changing levels and getting good deep shots,” said Heisdorf. “ Abigail, in her varsity action, pulled off a nice upset, knocking off the three seed.”
“Savannah wrestled really well, but she got caught in a reversal right ot her back to the eventual champion late in the match,” said Heisdorf. “I am confident she will learn from it and be better because of it.”
At Lomira
On Jan. 29, Campbellsport boys wrestling (6-1) beat Lomira (4-3) 52-22 to finish up their regular season against their Flyway conference rival.
“Trayton put together a strong performance, earning a major decision,” said Head Coach Alex Costello. “Gavin moved up to 150 and delivered a dominant performance by scoring multiple takedowns before securing a third-period pin.”
“Erich returned to the lineup after being sidelined with injury since early January to collect a 32-second pin,” said Costello. “Zach needed just 38 seconds to pick up a pin.”
“Porter won by forfeit, though he was disappointed not to get a match,” said Costello. “Reed secured a second-period fall to seal the dual win.”
Campbellsport wrestling will compete in the Flyway Conference Meet at NFDL on Feb. 7 at 10 a.m.
