On Feb 12, Campbellsport boys basketball defeated NFDL 72-57 on the road to sweep the season series against the Orioles in the Flway Conference.
Campbellsport (7-13, 4–7) jumped out to an early 8-0 lead over NFDL (5-16, 0-11) highlighted by offense with three-pointers from Trevin Shea and Carter Gellings, also on the defensive end of the court with a block from Shea and a steal from Trent Schaldweiler.
The Cougars extended their lead to 16-7 thanks to four points from Schladweiler sandwiching around Noah Bobb scoring on a nice backcut door cut with a pass from Pierce Kaehne, plus Gellings took a charge on the defensive end for Campbellsport.
NFDL scored five straight points before the Cougars closed the first half on a 10-3 scoring stretch featuring baskets from Shea and Bobb, which was finished off by a Kaehne old-fashion three-play to give Campbellsport a 26-15 halftime lead over the Orioles.
The Orioles scored the first two points of the second half before the Cougars scored ten consecutive points, highlighted by a Bobb three-pointer to put the score at 36-17 in favor of Campbellsport.
Campbellsport went on an 8-0 scoring run with the Cougars attacking the offensive backboards, which resulted in baskets from Gellings, Shea, and Schaldweiler to increase the Cougars’ lead to 44-20 over NFDL.
The Cougars pushed out their lead to 49-26 after baskets from Shea and Bobb, and Cambpellsport continued its strong play by getting offensive putbacks from Bobb and Schaldweiler to maintain their lead at 56-36 over NFDL.
NFDL tried to get into the game, but the Cougars maintained their lead in the game at the free throw line by making ten free throws to close out the 72-57 conference win.
“A nice collective bounce back from Tuesday,” said Head Coach Ethan Elliott.
Trevin Shea’s 20 points and Noah Bobb’ 15 points helped paved the way for the Campbellsport victory on the road.
Vs Omro
On Feb 10, Campbellsport boys basketball lost 67-52 to Omro at home in their Flyway conference matchup.
Campbellsport (7-13, 4-7) held an 11-4 lead over Omro (10-11, 5-6) thanks to six points from senior Noah Bobb.
Pierce Kaehne scored five consecutive points for the Cougars to put the score at 16-9 with Campbellsport holding the lead over the Foxes.
Omro fought back to take a 21-19 lead when Trent Schladweiler took a charge in the lane for the Cougars, and then Cullen Reis knocked down a three-pointer at the top of the key to reclaim the lead for Campbellsport at 22-21.
The Foxes regained the lead with a 24-22 lead before Schaldweiler followed his defensive play with a good drive for a layup to tie the game at 24.
Omro was able to score before the halftime buzzer to take a 26-24 lead into the break over the Cougars.
Carter Gellings scored six points early in the second half to give Campbellsport a 32-31 lead over the Foxes, but Omro went on to score ten straight points to push their lead to 41-32 over the Cougars.
Campbellsport showed their grittness of the court when Gellings knocked down consecutive threes to bring the score to 41-38 when the Foxes proceeded to go on a 7-0 scoring run to increase their lead to 48-38.
Bobb converted a strong baseline drive into a basket, and Trevin Shea hit a three-pointer for the Cougars to keep Campbellsport within striking distance at 53-43.
Omro was able to finish off the rest of the game to get a 67-52 road victory to split the series season between the two conference foes.
Carter Gellings led the Cougars with 22 points, and Noah Bobb added 12 points in the contest.
Campbellsport boys basketball hosted Mayville on Feb. 17 after print time, and the Cougars will travel to Lomira on Feb. 20 at 7 p.m.
