On February 9, Campbellsport girls’ basketball lost 67-53 to Winnebago Lutheran Academy in their rescheduled Flyway conference home game.
Campbellsport (2-17, 0-11) and WLA (9-11, 5-6) were tied at 13 after Sydney Brandt knocked a three-pointer for the Cougars.
The Cougars took the lead at 16-13 when Brittany Reilly scored in the post and converted her free throw attempt.
Campbellsport kept the game close when Taylor Schladweiler scored on a drive to put the score at 30-24, and Chloey Berres made a long jumper for the Cougars before the halftime buzzer to make the score 37-29 in favor of the Vikings at halftime.
Baskets from Brianna Bobb and Kiera Laverenz for Campbellsport closed the gap on the scoreboard at 41-35 early in the second half.
The Cougars wouldn’t go away in the game thanks to Laverenz’s ten points in the second half, and Schaldweiler converted an offensive rebound into three points at the six-minute mark, with the score of 51-45 with WLA in the lead.
WLA made enough plays at the end of the game to come away with a 67-53 hard-fought win against the Cougars.
Kiera Laverenz led the Cougars with 16 points and 12 rebounds, with Taylor Schladweiler adding 13 points in the game.
Senior Brittany Reilly reached 500 career rebounds for Campbellsport during the conference matchup.
At Springs
On Feb. 5, Campbellsport girls’ basketball lost to Springs 74-39 on the road during the Flyway conference matchup.
Campbellsport (2-17, 0-10) cut into the Springs (10-11, 6-5) when Brittany Reilly scored on an offensive rebound, and Chloey Berres made a three-pointer to put the score at 16-7 in favor of Ledgers.
The Ledgers controlled the rest of the first half to get a 41-11 lead at halftime over the Cougars.
The Cougars played a better second half Reilly and Kiera Laverenz combining for 17 points, but couldn’t overcome the first half deficit, resulting in the 74-39 loss to Springs.
Brittany Reilly led the Cougars with 15 points and 17 rebounds in the contest.
Vs West Bend West
On Feb. 3, Campbellsport girls’ basketball beat West Bend West 65-30 in a dominating non-conference win for the Cougars.
Campbellsport (2-17) jumped out to an early 10-2 lead over West Bend West (1-16), highlighted by four points from Brittany Reilly.
The Cougars’ lead was 18-9 thanks to a steal converted into a layup from freshman guard Taylor Schladweiler and six points from their junior post player Kiera Laverenz.
Campbellsport had its most impressive offensive stretch in the first half when it went on a 14-0 scoring run, expanding its lead to 32-11, featuring good movement resulting in three-pointers from Laverenz and sophomore guard Sydney Brandt.
Mckenna Loehr was active on the offensive boards and converted an old-fashioned three-point play when Loehr made her free throw to give Campbellsport a 35-15 halftime lead.
The Cougars started the second half with a 10-2 scoring stretch led by Brianna Bobb’s four points and Brandt’s breakaway steal for a layup to give Campbellsport a 45-17 lead over West Bend West.
Chloey Berres got a steal to give the Cougars two more easy transition points, and Schladweiler continued her steady plan on the court with two more points to put their lead at 53-24.
Reilly and Loehr combined for eight points in the closing minutes of the game to give the Cougars a commanding 65-30 victory on their home court.
Campbellsport had two players with a double-double in the game as Brittany Reilly had 14 points and 14 rebounds, with Kiera Laverenz adding 13 points and 10 rebounds.
“The girls played a good game together to get a good team win, and we are proud of them,” said Head Coach Ray LaBatte. “Now we need to believe that we can do this every night.”
Campbellsport girls basketball hosted Omro on Feb. 10 after the print time, and the Cougars traveled to Laconia on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.
