On May 21, Campbellsport softball defeated Oakfield 11-1 in five innings on the road to wrap up its regular season schedule.
Campbellsport (21-5) scored one run with two outs in the first inning thanks to a Mackenzie Helsell RBI single to take a 1-0 lead over Oakfield (14-9).
The Cougars’ offense exploded with six runs in the second inning, set up by a Olivia McCarty double followed by an Ayla Garvey RBI single and a three-run homer by Ava Sabish over the left field fence to take a 5-0 lead.
Emma Muraski hit a triple with two outs to set up RBI doubles from Helsell and McKenna Loehr to push the Cougars’ lead to 7-0 before the Oaks scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the second.
Sabish was facing two outs when she blasted her second home run of the game and seventh of the season to give the Cougars a commanding 8-1 lead in the third inning.
Campbellsport scored three runs in the fourth inning, which started with a Muraski double and was followed by an RBI single from Gracie Schwarz and Garvey to push the Cougars to an 11-1 victory in five innings.
Ava Sabish and Emma Muraski powered the offense with four extra-base hits in the non-conference matchup.
‘The thing about my team is they don’t care who they play and what their record is, they believe they can win every game,” said Head Coach Dan Heisdorf. “We got the hitting, pitching, and defense to make some noise in the playoffs.”
Vs Random Lake
On May 19, Campbellsport softball beat Random Lake 7-1 at home to get their 20th win of the season.
Campbellsport (21-5) scored two runs in the first inning, featuring an RBI double from Emma Muraski to take a 2-0 lead over Random Lake (15-5).
Ava Sabish hit a single with two outs to set the table for Peyton Hall’s RBI double to increase the Cougars lead to 3-0.
The Cougars got a leadoff double from Mackenzie Helsell in the third inning, with RBI singles from McKenna Loehr and Kaylie Jandre to expand their lead to 5-0 over the Rams.
The Rams scored their only run of the game in the sixth inning before Sabish hit her fifth home run of the season and Helsell hit an RBI single to give the Cougars the 7-1 non-conference win.
Mackenzie Helsell struck out ten Rams batters from the pitching circle to secure the victory for the Cougars.
Ava Sabish, Emma Muraski, and Helsell combined for eight hits to power the way for the Campbellsport offense.
“Twenty wins in softball is a special number, with the last time in 2021 getting to 20 wins, and to get to that number in the regular season is definitely something to be proud of,” said Head Coach Dan Heisdorf. “We put ourselves in positions to have a chance to win the conference by splitting with Lomira and Laconia to finish in second place, plus the fact that no one really picked us to do that makes it even better.”
Campbellsport softball hosted its second-round game against Two Rivers on May 26 after print time. The Cougars would play in the Regional Final on May 28 with a second-round win.
