On Feb. 6, Campbellsport boys’ basketball lost 54-42 to Laconia on the road in a competitive and physical Flyway conference basketball game.
Campbellsport (6-12, 3-6) held a 7-5 lead over Laconia (9-9, 5-4) thanks to a three-pointer from Trent Schladweiler and a basket in the lane from Noah Bobb.
Carter Gellings got a steal and raced down the court for a layup, plus getting fouled to allow him to make a free throw for the Cougars to take a 13-12 lead over the Spartans.
Laconia scored the next five points before Trevin Shea splashed in a three-pointer to put the score at 17-16 in favor of Laconia.
The Spartans took a 23-19 lead into the halftime break after Pierce Kaehne scored for Campbellsport.
Bobb converted an offensive rebound into two points to tie the game at 27 early in the second half before Laconia’s Cash Farrell scored eight consecutive points to give the Spartans a 37-27 lead.
The Cougars responded with three-pointers from Kaehne and Schladweiler to close the gap on the scoreboard at 39-33, with Laconia in the lead.
Campbellsport continued to show its grit on the court when Bobb scored a basket on a nice back-door cut to tighten the game at 43-39 with three minutes left in the game.
Laconia was able to pull away in the final minutes of the game by outscoring Campbellsport 11-3 to get the hard-fought 54-42 conference win.
“It was a close game, but Laconia separated with great free-throw shooting,” said Head Coach Ethan Elliott. “It was physical warfare in the Pit.”
Noah Bobb paced the Cougars with 13 points in the conference matchup.
Campbellsport hosted Omro on Feb. 10 after print time, and then the Cougars will travel to NFDL on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.
