On September 12, Campbellsport girls volleyball finished in second place at the Beaver Dam Invitational.
Campbellsport (13-8) had another productive weekend with wins over Beaver Dam, Horicon, and conference rival Mayville in two sets at the Volleyball Invite.
The Cougars fell to Oshkosh West twice at Beaver Dam in a two-set early-round match and then again in the championship match, which took the full three sets, with the Cougars falling short by a score of 15-13 in the third set.
“Saturday’s tournament showed what our program can do with us coming back from the hard-fought loss against Mayville on Thursday to beat them in two sets with large margins on Saturday,” said Campbellsport Head Coach Alexandra Brenner. “I am proud of my team for the way they reacted to defeat and used that to motivate themselves to play even better.”
“Throughout the entire day we only lost to Oshkosh West and came very close to beating them in the championship,” said Brenner. “Overall, to take second place at the Beaver Dam Invite feels like an accomplishment and something to be proud of.”
Vs Mayville
On September 10, Campbellsport girls volleyball lost to Mayville in five sets in a back-and-forth match in a great environment for the Flyway Conference matchup.
Campbellsport (13-8, 1-1) won the first set by a score of 25-17 after jumping out to a 17-10 lead in the first set, led by seniors Ellie Smith and Emma Muraski.
The Cougars continued to control the match in the full warm gym by winning the second set over Mayville with a score of 25-22.
Mayville (12-4, 2-0) flipped the match in the third set with a score of 25-16 and then evened the match by winning the fourth set over the Cougars by a 25-19 margin.
The Cardinals completed their comeback in the match by winning the fifth set 15-10 in a very competitive match with high energy on the court and from both student sections, featuring two of the top teams in the Flyway Conference.
Campbellsport girls' volleyball will travel to Springs on September 17 at 7 p.m.
