On Feb 20, Campbellsport boys basketball lost 75-45 on the road to their rival conference, Lomira.
Lomira (21-1, 13-0) was leading 8-7 over Campbellsport (7-15, 4-9) after Trevin Shea scored four points and Deacon Cousert hit a three-pointer for the Cougars.
The Cougars were trailing 18-7 when Quinten Cappozzo knocked down two three-pointers, and Pierce Kaehne scored five straight points to close the gap on the scoreboard to 25-18 in favor of the Lions with less than seven minutes left in the first half.
The Lions closed out the first half with a 38-23 halftime lead over the Cougars.
Shea made a three-pointer for Campbellsport early in the second half to make the score 41-26, but the Lions controlled the rest of the second half to secure a 75-45 win over the visiting Cougars.
Pierce Kaehne led the Cougars with 10 points, and the Lions were paced by Jake Broeske with a game-high 29 points in the contest.
Vs Mayville
On Feb 17, Campbellsport boys basketball lost 56-51 to Mayville at home in their Flyway Conference matchup.
Campbellsport (7-15, 4-9) held a 7-5 lead over Mayville (12-8, 10-3) thanks to Noah Bobb scoring five points off of two offensive rebound putbacks and a free throw.
Mayville was leading 16-9 when the Cougars went on a 7-0 scoring run featuring a Bobb pull-up and Carter Gellings’ basket to tie the game at 16.
Trevin Shea and Bobb knocked down threes to give the Cougars a 22-18 lead over the Cardinals.
The Cardinals scored seven straight points before Cullen Reis drained a three-pointer from the corner to tie the game at 25 between the two rivals at the halftime break.
Gellings was open on the wing for a three-pointer to give the Cougars a 28-25 lead before Mayville went on a 15-1 run to take a 40-25 lead over Campbellsport.
Campbellsport was trailing 47-34 with 8:25 left in the game when Gellings knocked down back-to-back three-pointers for the Cougars to tighten the game up at 47-40 in favor of the Cardinals.
Mayville was holding on 55-43 lead with two minutes left in the game when Reis assisted Bobb on three consecutive baskets, and after a Cardinals turnover, Gellings scored a basket with 31 seconds left in the game to put the score at 55-51 with the Cardinals leading.
The Cardinals were able to hold on to secure a 56-51 win over the Cougars with Noah Bobb leading Campbellsport with 18 points, and Carter Gellings added 15 points.
The Cougars will host the ten-seed NFDL as the seven-seed in the first round of the WIAA Boys basketball tournament on March 3 at 7 p.m.
Campbellsport traveled to Kettle Moraine Lutheran on Feb. 24 after print time. The Cougars will finish their regular season at home against Springs on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
