On April 27, Campbellsport softball beat NFDL 8-1 on the road after rain earlier in the day.
Campbellsport’s (9-3, 5-1) Ava Sabish started the game with a leadoff double, and Sabish was driven in by a RBI triple by Emma Muraski to center field, then Mackenzie Helsell hit a RBI single to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead over NFDL (3-5, 2-3).
Taylor Schladweiler hit a leadoff single in the second inning, followed by a Sabish single, setting the table for Helsell to drive them with a two-run double RBi to increase the Campbellsport lead to 4-0.
The Orioles scored their only run of the game in the third inning before the Cougars got RBI singles from Helsell and McKenna Loehr in the fourth inning to expand the Cougars’ lead to 7-1 over the Orioles.
The Cougars added their final run of the game when Sabish drove in Schladweiler with an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning, giving Campbellsport the 8-1 winning margin.
Oliva McCarty got the win with a complete game by striking out 12 batters, with Ava Sabish and Mackenzie Helsell combining for eight hits to power the Campbellsport offense.
Vs Winneconne
On April 24, Campbellsport softball lost to Winneconne 6-3 at home on Parents Night for the Cougars.
Campbellsport (9-3) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning over Winneconne (5-8) when Ava Sabish and Emma Muraski scored runs for the Cougars.
Winneconne scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead over Campbellsport.
The Cougars got the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but only got one run across home plate when Peyton Hall got a RBI to make the score 5-3 after four innings.
The Wolves added a run in the fifth inning and held the Cougars’ powerful offense to no outs in the final three innings to secure the 6-3 win over Campbellsport.
Ava Sabish and Emma Muraski combined for four hits in the non-conference matchup.
Vs Lomira
On April 23, Campbellsport softball beat Lomira 10-9 at home in a highly competitive game featuring two very good teams in the Flyway conference.
Campbellsport (9-3, 5-1) scored two runs in the first inning when the Cougars got the bases loaded with two outs, resulting in Mackenzie Helsell and Peyton Hall scoring to take a 2-0 lead over Lomira (8-2, 4-1).
Lomira responded in the third inning with a three-run home run by Lily Christain over the center field fence with two outs set up by singles from Brianna Frea and Izzy Westphal to give the Lions a 3-2 lead after Christain’s sixth home run of the season.
The Cougars’ offense got going in the bottom of the third inning, starting with a McKenna Loehr RBI single to tie the game at three.
Campbellsport was leading 4-3 with two outs and the bases loaded when the Cougars scored three runs off of a Ava Sabish double to take a 7-3 lead over the Lions.
The Lions scored two runs with the bases loaded in the fourth inning, highlighted by a Frea RBI single to make the score 7-5 in favor of the Cougars.
The Cougars scored three runs in the fifth inning, featuring a two-out double by Loehr to center, driving in two.
Lomira offense loaded the bases in the sixth inning with one out to score three runs thanks to RBI singles by Christian and Haleigh Caspary to close the gap to 10-8 before Olivia McCarty came on to pitch with the Lions having runners on 3rd and 1st base.
McCarty proceeded to get a strikeout to end the Lomira threat in the sixth inning, keeping the Campbellsport lead at 10-8.
Lomira’s Tori Thomas got a leadoff single to start the seventh inning, and Frea hit an RBI double to tighten the game at 10-9 in favor of Campbellsport.
Campbellsport’s McCarty got another strikeout from the pitching circle to secure the 10-9 win in the high-scoring and entertaining softball game.
McKenna Loehr and Ava Sabish powered the Cougars offense by combining for four hits and five runs batted in the conference win.
At WLA
On April 21, Campbellsport softball defeated Winnebago Lutheran Academy 4-1 on the road in their Flyway Conference matchup.
Campbellsport (9-3, 5-1) scored first when Mackenzie Helsell hit an RBI single to drive in Ava Sabish to get a 1-0 lead in the first inning over WLA (3-4, 3-2).
Sabish scored a run in the third inning, and another run by a Peyton Hall RBI single in the fifth inning to increase the Cougars’ lead to 3-0 over the Vikings.
The Cougars got a sacrifice fly from Hall in the seventh inning to push their lead to 4-0, but the Vikings threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring a run and getting runners on 2nd and 3rd base.
Campbellsport’s Sabish came on to pitch with one out in the seventh inning to strike out the final Vikings batter to secure the 4-1 conference win.
Peyton Hall got the win for the Cougars and paced the offense with two runs batted in the conference road win.
Campbellsport softball traveled to Springs on April 28 after print time. The Cougars will host Laconia on April 30 at 5 p.m. and travel to Bird Creek for a softball quad on May 2 at 10 a.m. The team will play at Mayville on May 4 at 5 p.m.
