Cougars Softball Wins Four Games During Busy Schedule

On April 13, Campbellsport softball defeated Waterloo 8-1 at home for its fourth win in the past six games.
Campbellsport (5-2) was trailing 1-0 to Waterloo (0-3) in the first inning when Emma Muraski hit a single with two outs, which Mackenzie Helsell followed with an RBI double to left, tying the game at one.
McKenna Loehr hit a leadoff triple to center field, then Loehr scored the go-ahead run in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead for the Cougars.
Muraski led off the third inning with a double to right field, which was followed by a Helsell single, and then Loehr hit a two-run double to center to give Campbellsport a 4-1 lead over Waterloo.

The Cougars scored two runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a Helsell RBI double to left to increase the Campbellsport lead to 6-1.
Loehr scored another run in the fifth inning for the Cougars to extend their lead to 7-1.
Campbellsport got a leadoff single from Abigail Ksioszk, who was driven in by an RBI double from Muraski to give the Cougars an 8-1 non-conference win.
Ava Sabish got a complete game win, allowing one run in seven innings in the pitching circle for the Cougars.
Emma Muraski, McKenna Loehr, and Mackenzie Helsell combined to drive in five runs with their eight combined hits to power the Campbellsport offense.
At Mauston
On April 11. Campbellsport lost 3-2 to Escanaba (MI) to finish the two-day visit to Mauston.
Escanaba scored first in the first inning before Ava Sabish hit a leadoff double, and Emma Muraski followed up with an RBI single for Campbellsport (5-2) to tie the game at one after the first inning.
The Cougars took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning when McKenna Loehr hit a RBI single to left with two outs.
Campbellsport was one out away in the top of the seventh inning to win the third game of their trip to Mauston, but Escanabe responded to score two runs to take the 3-2 lead over the Cougars.
The Cougars got two runners on the base paths in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Escanaba got the final two outs without allowing any runners, securing the 3-2 win.
McKenna Loehr and Emma Muraski each drove in a run for the Cougars in the non-conference matchup.
On April 10, Campbellsport softball beat Merrill 15-10 in a high-scoring matchup for the Cougars’ second win of the day in Mauston.
Campbellsport (5-2) was trailing 1-0 to Merrill (2-1) in the second inning when Oliva McCarty hit a leadoff triple which opened up the offensive flood gates for the Cougars with Gracie Schwarz hitting a solo home run then Ava Sabish and Peyton Hall hitting back-to-back RBI triples then capped off by a Emma Muraski RBI single to take a 5-1 lead.
Merrill fought back to take a 7-5 lead after three innings when Muraski started the fourth inning with a single, which was followed by an RBI singles from McCarty and McKenna Loehr to tie the game at seven.
The Cougars got the bases loaded with two outs, resulting in four more runs highlighted by Sabish’s two-run RBI double to take a 11-7 lead over Merrill.
Merrill’s offense showed up with three more runs, tightening the gap to 11-10 before the Cougars’ offense showed again with four runs featuring a Sabish RBi double, Hall RBi single, and Muraski RBI triple in the sixth inning to help secure the 15-10 non-conference win.
Ava Sabish, Peyton Hall, and Emma Muraski combined for eight runs batted in and eight hits to lead the powerful Campbellsport offense in the victory.
On April 10, Campbellsport softball beat Lake Mills 12-2 in six innings in their first game at the Woodside Sports Complex in Mauston.
Lake Mills (1-1) had a 2-0 lead over Campbellsport (5-2) in the second inning with the bases loaded with no outs, but the L-Cats weren’t able to score a run, which led to the Cougars’ offense taking over the non-conference matchup.
The Cougars scored a run in the third inning when they got the bases loaded when Oliva McCarty hit a bases-clearing double to give Campbellsport a 4-2 lead, but the Cougars offense wasn’t done by loading the bases again, which led to a Taylor Schladweiler two-run RBI single and an Ava Sabish RBI single for a 7-2 lead.
Sabish helped her cause on the mound by hitting an RBI triple in the fifth inning to increase the Cougars’ lead to 8-2.
Campbellsport was able to score four runs in the sixth inning, featuring RBI singles from Gracie Schwarz and Irelyn Woolheter to get the 12-2 non-conference win.
Ava Sabish got the win after pitching six innings for the Cougars in the victory.
Sabish, Olivia McCarty, and Taylor Schladweiler paced the offense by combining for seven runs batted in for Campbellsport.
At Laconia
On April 9, Campbellsport softball lost 6-4 to Laconia in a back-and-forth Flyway conference game on the road.
Campbellsport (5-2, 1-1) got a 2-0 lead in the third inning over Laconia (3-0, 2-0) thanks to runs scored by Taylor Schladweiler and Ava Sabish before the Spartans responded in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-2 lead over the Cougars.
Schaldweiler hit a single in the fifth inning, setting up the Campbellsport offense with Peyton Hall hitting a RBI double and Emma Muraski getting a RBI single with two outs to give the Cougars a 4-3 lead.
McKenna Loehr showed off her defensive skills by ranging into left field to make a running catch from her shortstop position to end Laconia’s fifth inning to keep the Cougars in the lead.
Laconia scored three unearned runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Spartans a 6-4 lead over the Cougars, resulting in the conference win for Laconia.
Emma Muraski led the Campbellsport offense with two hits and two runs batted in the conference matchup.
Vs Springs
On April 7, Campbellsport softball beat Springs 15-0 in four innings in a dominating win in their Flyway Conference opener at home.
Campbellsport (5-2, 1-1) got a two-run RBI double with two outs from Olivia McCarty in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead over Springs (1-1, 1-1).
Peyton Hall hit a leadoff triple to start the third inning, which was followed by an RBI single from Emma Muraski and an RBI double from Mackenzie Helsell to help the Cougars take a 5-0 lead after three innings.
The Cougars’ offense exploded in the fourth inning for ten runs, starting with an RBI double from Muraski and another RBI from McCarty to take an 8-0 lead before Campbellsport loaded the bases with one out.
Gracie Schwarz hit a two-run RBI double to center field to increase the lead to 11-0, and the Cougars continued to score runs with the bases loaded before Muraski got her second hit of the inning with a RBI single to finish off the Ledgers in four innings with an impressive 15-0 win.
Peyton Hall and Ava Sabish combined for the shutout from the pitching circle for the Cougars in the home opening win.
Emma Muraski led the way with four hits and three runs batted in, with Oliva McCarty, Mackenzie Helsell, and Gracie Schwarz combining to drive in six runs for the Cougars.
Campbellsport softball hosted Mayville on April 14 after print time. The Cougars will travel to Omro on April 16 at 5 p.m.
