On September 11, Campbellsport football defeated Winnebago Lutheran Academy 12-7 on the road to secure their first win of the season during the Flyway Conference matchup.
Campbellsport’s defense (1-3, 1-1) tightened up to stop WLA (1-3, 0-2) on fourth down at the Cougars’ 17-yard line to keep the score 0-0 at the end of the third quarter.
“Our defense played extremely well and was disciplined in reading their keys and executing the game plan we worked on all week,” said Campbellsport Head Coach Todd Wondra. ‘When you are disciplined, and everyone does their job, good things happen.”
Sophomore Running Back Cullan Flasch sprinted down the field in front of the Cougars’ bench for a 46-yard rushing touchdown early in the fourth quarter, capping off an impressive 83-yard drive for a 6-0 lead over the Vikings.

“Cullan’s touchdown this week is a result of how the Wing-T offense is run,” said Wondra. “You need to call certain plays at certain times to get the explosive results, and he has capitalized on that the last couple of weeks and continues to run hard.”
WLA’s Everett Skaer scored a two-yard rushing touchdown with 3:36 left in the game, giving the Vikings a 7-6 lead against the Cougars.
The Cougars started their final offensive drive at their own 28-yard line after moving the ball to the WLA 46-yard line.
Campbellsport faced a fourth down with the game on the line. Flasch gained 11 yards, giving the Cougars a new set of downs.
Junior Quarterback Jackson Straub moved outside the pocket for the Cougars when he located a wide-open Levi Bentz behind the Vikings’ defense.
Bentz caught the pass from his quarterback and sprinted the final yards into the end zone with 41 seconds left to give Campbellsport a 12-7 lead in dramatic fashion.
“Jackson to Levi was another one of those plays you need to call and set up throughout the game,” said Wondra. “That was a great read, and two from Jackson and Levi secured the catch and did the rest.”
The Vikings got the ball to the Cougars’ 30-yard line before the Campbellsport defense, which held WLA to 128 total yards in the game and stopped WLA’s laterals on the final drive, giving Campbellsport a hard-fought 12-7 conference win.
“The kids played hard all night and never quit,” said Wondra. “We know each week in this conference is going to be a battle, and they were ready for it. WLA is a big physical team, and we matched that this week again.”
Campbellsport football will host Mayville on September 18 at 7 p.m.
