Cougars Win First Girls Flyway Conference Championship

Posted

On Feb. 7, Campbellsport girls’ wrestling won the first-ever girls flyway conference championship with 155 points.
The Cougars had six individual champions on the girls’ team, with Irelyn Woolhether, Bella Pickering, Emerson Wissink, Savannah Ksioszk, Abigail Ksioszk, and Mya Schraufnagel winning their individual weight classes for a very productive day for the Campbellsport team.
“The girls took care of business with it being the first girls wrestling Flyway Conference Championships, and they wanted to bring home the trophy,” said Head Coach Dan Heisdorf.
“Abigail had the most exciting match, being down eight points in the third period, she knew she needed a big move, and she hit the girls with a head throw and got the pin,” said Heisdorf.

“Now the focus is on Friday as we start the postseason and we get to host regionals with the top two wrestlers moving on to sectionals,” said Heisdorf.
Campbellsport boys wrestling finished in third place with 187 points at the Flyway conference meet at NFDL.
Porter Klotz and Jacob Allickson were individual conference champions, with Zayden Groll, Gavin Pickering, Erich Cappozzo, and Zach Zimdahl finishing in second place to lead the Cougars on the day.
“Jacob was dominant all day by earning a fall in the semifinals before tech-falling his opponent in the finals,“ said Head Coach Alex Costello. “It is his second conference title of his career.”
“Porter was just as impressive by spending a total of 2:32 on the mat for the entire tournament while picking up two first-period pins on his way to his second consecutive conference championship,” said Costello.
“Gavin wraps up his career as a four-time Flyway conference runner-up, which is an incredible accomplishment,” said Costello.
“The guys know it’s time to lock in, get to work, and be ready to punch their tickets to the Kohl Center on Saturday,” said Costello.
Campbellsport girls wrestling will host Regionals on Feb. 13 at 5 p.m., and the boys wrestling team will travel to Port Washington for Sectionals on Feb. 14.
