First Place Cougars Push Winning Streak to Six Games

On May 4, Campbellsport softball defeated Mayville 10-0 in six innings on the road to push its current winning streak to six games.
Campbellsport (14-3, 8-1) started the game with a leadoff single from Ava Sabish and then proceeded to load the bases three times and scored five runs without getting another hit to take a 5-0 lead in the first inning over Mayville (0-15, 0-10).
Kaylie Jandre led off the third inning with a double, then Ayla Garvey followed with a single to set up Sabish to hit a three-run home run over the center field fence to take a commanding 8-0 lead over the Cardinals.
The Cougars had a hitting parade in the sixth inning with a leadoff single by Savannah Ksioszk, then a single from McKenna Loehr, which led to RBI singles from Gracie Schwarz and Taylor Schladweiler to secure the Campbellsport 10-0 win in six innings.

Peyton Hall and Olivia McCarty combined to strike out 11 Cardinals batters and allowed only six hits in the conference victory.
Ava Sabish led the Cougars’ offense with three hits, including the three-run home run in the matchup.
At Wautoma
On May 2, Campbellsport softball defeated Westby 2-0 in their second game in Wautoma to go 2-0 on their Saturday of softball.
Campbellsport (14-3) got a leadoff single in the second inning from Savannah Ksioszk, followed by a single from Ayla Gavery to help load the bases for the Cougars with one out.
S. Ksioszk came around to score to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead over Westby (3-8) after two innings.
Olivia McCarty hit a double in the third inning with S. Ksioszk driving in a run with a RBI single to increase the Cougars’ lead to 2-0.
S.Ksioszk and Ava Sabish combined their pitching efforts for the two-hit shutout by striking out nine batters to give Campbellsport the 2-0 non-conference win.
Emma Muraski and Savannah Ksioszk paced the offense with five total hits for the Campbellsport offense.
Campbellsport softball beat River Valley 3-1 in their first game at Bird Creek Park in Wautoma.
Campbellsport’s (14-3) McKenna Loehr hit an RBI single to right field with two outs in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead over River Valley (5-10).
The Cougars’ offense scored two more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a Loehr leadoff double, which was driven in by Abigail Ksioszk, then a Josie Twohig Sac Fly, increasing the Campbellsport lead to 3-0.
River Valley scored its only run of the game in the seventh inning after Mackenzie Helsell and Olivia McCarty contained the Blackhawks’ offense to two hits and struck out nine batters in the Campbellsport 3-1 victory.
McKenna Loehr led the way with two hits for the Cougars offense.
Vs Laconia
On April 30, Campbellsport softball beat Laconia 5-4 at home to split the season between the two teams.
Campbellsport (14-3, 8-1) received an Ava Sabish leadoff single in the first inning before the Cougars loaded bases with no outs against Laconia (7-2, 4-2).
Sabish scored the first run of the game before Emma Muraski hit a two-run RBI single to right field to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
Laconia scored a run in the second and two runs in the third inning to tie the game at three between the Flyway powerhouses.
The Cougars got a leadoff single from Mackenzie Helsell, followed by Olivia McCarty’s RBI single to give Campbellsport the lead back at 4-3 in the bottom of the third inning.
The Spartans tied the game at four in the top of the fourth inning, setting up a dramatic finish between the two teams.
Campbellsport’s Taylor Schaldweiler faced two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Schaldweiler laced a double RBI into left field, giving the Cougars a 5-4 over the Spartans.
Sabish finished off the game by striking out the final two batters of the game with Laconia’s tying run on second base.
“Huge win for the Cougars tonight by beating the fourth-ranked Spartans,” said Head Coach Dan Heisdorf.
Ava Sabish was the winning pitcher for Campbellsport with a complete game on the mound, with 157 pitches by striking out ten Spartans on the day.
Olivia McCarty and Sabish combined for four hits for the Cougars in the conference victory.
At Springs
On April 28, Campbellsport softball defeated Springs 5-3 on the road to sweep the season series by a combined score of 20-3.
Campbellsport (14-3, 8-1) got a leadoff double from Ava Sabish in the first inning, which was followed by an RBI single from Emma Muraski to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead over Springs (3-5, 2-3), but the Cougars weren’t done in the inning.
McKenna Loehr hit a RBI double, and Olivia McCarty next hit a RBI single with two outs to increase the Campbellsport to 3-0 after the first inning.
Springs scored two runs in the third inning to make the score 3-2 when Abigail Ksioszk hit a leadoff double and eventually came around to score a run for the Cougars to expand their lead to 4-2 after the top of the fourth inning.
The Cougars got a huge defensive play in the bottom of the fourth inning featuring Josie Twohig catching a fly ball in left and throwing a perfect throw to home, allowing catcher Taylor Schaldweiler to catch the ball to apply a sweeping tag to keep the Cougars’ lead at 4-2 after completing the impressive double play.
The Ledgers added a run in the fifth inning to close the gap 4-3, but the Cougars got the run back in the sixth inning, facing two outs, Ava Sabish hit a single and was driven in by a Peyton Hall RBI double to give Campbellsport the winning margin of 5-3 in the conference matchup.
Peyton Hall got the win by pitching the first four innings of the game, with Mackenzie Helsell picking up the save after pitching the final three innings for the Cougars.
Ava Sabish and Abigail Ksioszk led the offense with a combined five hits and three doubles in the conference victory.
Campbellsport softball will host Omro for a doubleheader on May 7 at 4 p.m.
