The Kewaskum High School cross country team entered the 2026 season more prepared than ever, and that preparation was on full display at this weekend’s Jamie Block Challenge.
Throughout the summer, Kewaskum runners logged an impressive 2,401 combined miles, laying the foundation for what the team hopes will be a special season. The improvements also showed in the team standings.
The Kewaskum girls finished fourth overall, while the boys earned fifth place, giving both teams a strong start to the season.
The Jamie Block Challenge awards individual medals based on grade level, and Kewaskum had a large group of runners earn medals.
For the girls, freshman Gracelyn Beimborn led the way with a 4th place finish in the ninth-grade race, while Evalyn Dourn finished 6th. In the sophomore division, Maya Weissenrieder placed 6th, Sydney Beyer 7th and Cailyn Beres 9th.
Junior Olivia Dourn earned 12th place, followed closely by Makenna Poole in 13th. Among the seniors, Taylor Kulick finished 7th and Cedar Racer placed 12th.
The boys also brought home several medals, highlighted by freshman Sullivan Marquardt, who captured 1st place in the ninth-grade boys division. Fellow freshman Tony Pasbrig finished third.
The junior boys had three medalists, with Wyatt Luedtke finishing 7th, Leo Kohlwey 8th and Zach Hein 15th. Seniors Carter Heimerman and Layton Dexter finished 9th and 15th, respectively.
Beyond the medals and team finishes, the most encouraging part of the opening meet may have been the overall improvement throughout the Kewaskum lineup. The summer mileage, commitment and preparation are already paying dividends.
