The Kewaskum Indians cross country teams turned in another outstanding performance at the James Boyd Invitational, hosted by De Pere High School at the UW–Green Bay Alumni Course on Thursday, September 4. Competing against a field of 17 schools, the guys’ team placed third overall, while the girls’ squad earned sixth, both proving that Kewaskum belongs among the top programs in the state.
Even more impressive than the team scores were the individual breakthroughs. Out of 32 runners, 28 posted season-best times and 10 set new personal records, and 17 of the 20 who raced on this course last year ran faster. Coaches noted the commitment and progress across the entire roster, calling it one of the team’s most rewarding days yet.
On the boys’ side, Wyatt Luedtke once again led the pack, running a 18:08 for a strong finish. He was closely followed by Carter Heimerman (18:52), Layton Dexter (18:57), Aaron Schmidt (19:09), and Zachary Hein (19:15), Leo Kohlwey (19:16), Elliott Schulz (19:56), and Dalton Bahr (21:46)—a tight group that gave the Indians the depth needed to secure their top-three finish.
For the girls, Olivia Gerhartz once again set the pace, crossing in 20:33 for another top-tier performance. She was followed by Taylor Kulick (22:09), Cailyn Beres (23:03), Maya Weissenrieder (23:06), Ruby Gerhartz (23:19), Cedar Racer (24:31), Olivia Dourn (24:38), and Makenna Poole (25:05). The group’s consistency and pack running carried them to a sixth-place team finish in a very competitive girls’ field.
“This team continues to amaze us,” the coaches said afterward. “The work ethic, the support they show one another, and the way they’re improving week to week is something really special.”
The Indians will carry this momentum into their next race, the Nightfall Classic, hosted at the Winagamie Golf Course on Friday, September 12. Kewaskum will join 53 other schools in this one-of-a-kind event. Spectators are encouraged to come cheer as athletes race under the lights, with the course illuminated by string lights and towers, creating a thrilling atmosphere unlike any other.
“Join us as the Indians continue to chase faster times, stronger finishes, and the unforgettable memories that make Kewaskum cross country so special,” said Coach Bicknell.
