The Kewaskum girls’ basketball team kicked off their season with a non-conference home opener against the Slinger Owls. Kewaskum is part of the Glacier Trails Conference, and Slinger is part of the North Shore Conference. This was the first game of the season for both teams.
Slinger had a quick start to the game, with the Indians unable to catch up to them. The girls fought for every point, ending the first half with a score of 20-30, in favor of Slinger.
Ruby McCain turned the game around for the Indians, scoring on a layup with 10:23 left in the second half to finally put Kewaskum ahead 40-39. Kewaskum continued to attempt to grow the lead. They were able to score 45 points against Slinger in the second half.
Kewaskum won at home against Slinger with a final score of 65-57. Cameron Boelte was the lead scorer for the Indians with 17 points. Kaelyn Rettler and Olivia Gerhartz were both the second-highest scorers with 12 points each. Lily Prost was the third-highest scorer for Kewaskum with nine points.
The girls then went on to face the Lomira Lions away at Lomira High School on Friday, November 21. Cameron Boelte gave Kewaskum an early lead with a three-pointer to start the game. They continued this momentum with four more three-pointers scored. Three of these were made by Anna Parish, giving them a 17-7 lead with 14 minutes left in the first half.
