The Kewaskum girls’ basketball team traveled to Winnebago Lutheran Academy on Tuesday, December 30. The Indians entered the game with a 6-3 overall record and a 4-0 conference record in the Glacier Hills Conference. The Winnebago Lutheran Academy Vikings had a 5-4 overall record and a 1-3 conference record in the Flyaway Conference. The Indians were coming off a two-game win streak. The Winnebago Lutheran Academy team was coming off of a loss against Laconia.
Winnebago Lutheran scored the first point of the game with a two-pointer by Addy Suprenand. Olivia Gerhartz scored the Indians’ first points with a two-pointer at 14:52, bringing the score to 2-5.
The Vikings’ Jenna Petrowitz made one out of two free throws, bringing the Vikings’ score to six. Kaelyn Rettler then went on to score another two-pointer for the Indians at 11:23, making the overall score 4-6.
Addy Suprenand made both of her free throws, further extending the Vikings’ lead. Cameron Boelte scored a three-pointer at 9:27 for an overall score of 7-11. She then went on to score another three-pointer at 3:32 to bring the overall score to 14-18. The Indians fell just short at the end of the first half with a score of 18-22.
Cameron Boelte scored the Indians’ first points of the second half with a three-pointer at 15:35. She then went on to score another two points at 14:35 to bring the overall score to 23-26. Alexis Belyeu scored a two-pointer to bring the overall score to 28-31 for the Indians. Lilly Prost made both of her free throws, bringing the Indians’ score to 30-32. Alexis Belyeu scored for the Indians to tie the game at 32-32. Cameron Boelte scored a three-pointer to take the lead at 35-33 for the Indians. She scored another three to extend the lead to 39-33. Anna Parish went for a layup, adding two points to the Indians’ lead. Kaelyn Rettler made both of her free throws to make the overall score 43-37. Rettler scored two more free throws with 1:13 left in the second half. Lily Prost and Cameron Boelte ended the game for the Indians, with Boelte making one free throw and Prost making two. This ended the game with a win for the Indians, 52-41.
Stat leaders for the game were Cameron Boelte with 24 points, Kaelyn Rettler with 11 points, and Olivia Gerhartz with seven points. Olivia Gerhartz had five rebounds, and Kaelyn Rettler and Alexis Belyeu each had four. Cameron Boelte made five three-pointers throughout the game.
