Kewaskum Girls Golf Opens Season with Home Meet

Posted

On August 18, the Kewaskum High School Girls Golf Team hosted Kettle Moraine Lutheran, Kiel, West Bend West, and Plymouth for a Glacier Trails Conference Mini Meet at Hon-E-Kor Golf Course in Kewaskum, with Kewaskum coming in fifth as a team with an overall score of 258.

Sophomore Harper Herriges tied for tenth at the meet with a score of 53 to lead the way for Kewaskum.

Kenley Yapp had a score of 67 (22nd); Peyton Voight and Miley Johnson both had a score of 69 (23rd); and Leah Koth scored 73 (25th).

“Harper Herriges is coming off a good freshman year,” said Head Coach Casey Scheel. “Looking for her to make a leap because she has a lot of potential.”

“The Varsity team is looking to become more competitive this year,”  said Scheel. “One of our biggest goals this year is getting the girls to want to compete and becoming competitive.”

“Another goal is consistency,” said Scheel. “Really just getting the girls confident that they can repetitively hit similar shots time and time again.”

Kewaskum has several returning girls on the Varsity roster this year. Scheel said, “Junior Kenley Yapp is a two-year varsity player that can leap forward. Senior Miley Johnson also has varsity experience.”

The Kewaskum Girls Golf Program is continuing to grow the sport. Scheel said, “Numbers are strong this year again with 17 girls out. We continue growing the game, continually adding more girls every season to the roster.”

Kewaskum Girls Golf Team will compete on August 31 at 2:30 p.m. at the Washington County Golf Course.
