Kewaskum Girls Soccer Celebrates Two Wins

Posted

The Kewaskum Girls Soccer Team played five games the week of May 10 and ended the week with a 2-3 record.
They traveled to Plymouth on Tuesday May 12 for a non conference game. The Plymouth Panthers and the Kewaskum team previously played each other on 4/21 at Kewaskum High School, which resulted in a 0-3 loss for Kewaskum. This game resulted in a similar outcome for the girls, with Plymouth scoring the only goal of the first half, then scoring four more during the second resulting in a 0-5 loss for Kewaskum. Plymouth had 14 shots on goal compared to Kewaskum’s 4. Goalie, Malia Volesky, had 14 saves for Kewaskum. Coach Piwoni said, “Plymouth came out strong like they always do. We did a nice job of challenging them and making it very difficult for them to score. It was 1-0 at halftime but the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half we came out a bit flat and they were able to put in 3 quick goals to put the game out of reach.”
Kewaskum then traveled to Sheboygan South on Thursday May 14 for a conference game. The Kewaskum girls lost during their last game Sheboygan South on 4/23 with a score of 1-2. The Kewaskum players showed their improvement during this game, scoring the first goal against Sheboygan South during the 32nd minute in the first half. Piwoni said, “The girls came out quickly and really worked to set the tone for the game. We were aggressive and had a great attacking mentality.” “Brooke Pritchard put us on the board at the 32nd minute with an assist by Kenley Yapp to give us a 1-0 halftime lead.” The girls continued this momentum in the second half when, “Dana Jacobson added to the lead with a goal of her own and then Brooke Pritchard completed scoring near the end of the game to seal the 3-0 win.” Coach Piwoni celebrated his team’s success saying, “ This was a game the girls really wanted because they felt like they let our previous matchup with Sheboygan South slip away. It was great to see them come out aggressively and play that way throughout the entire game. It really showed great growth in all of them.” Kewaskum had 15 shots on goal and Sheboygan South had 7.
The team then traveled to the Kiel Invite Tournament and competed against St. Mary’s Springs and won 1-0. Dana Jacobson was able to score assisted Jadelyn Stoltzman. They then played Ozaukee/Random Lake Co-Op and lost 0-2 and Manitowoc Lincoln and lost 0-2. Coach Piwoni said, “I was really proud of our girls for battling all day. We played some really good teams and made it really difficult for them to score. A big shout out to our two middle defenders Lexi Belyeu and Alayna Lambrecht who played every minute of all three games and led the defensive effort the entire tournament. Great job by the entire defensive line. They kept us in every game.”
