The Kewaskum boys’ soccer team played Grafton on Thursday, Oct. 23 at home for the Regional Semifinals. This was Kewaskum’s first playoff game of the season after a first-round bye. They had the three-seed going into the playoffs.
Mac Hasse scored the first point of the game at 16:30, assisted by Luciano Olla. Charlie Gambino scored the second goal of the game at 24:10, assisted by Matthew Betz. Betz also had nine saves during the match. No points were scored by either team during the second half, putting the final score at 2-0 for a Kewaskum win. This put their overall record at 14-5-2 with a .72 winning percentage.
The Indians faced Freedom in the Regional Finals at home on Saturday, Oct. 26. Freedom entered the game with an overall record of 12-1-5 and a conference record of 4-0-3. Freedom had the six-seed for the playoffs.
Eli Steinbauer scored the first goal of the game for the Indians at 34:14, assisted by Vitale Olla. Both teams fought hard, with Freedom not scoring the next point until 58:10. This left the score at 1-1, resulting in penalty kicks being awarded to both teams to determine who would advance in the tournament. This was a nail-biter ending to the game, with Kewaskum ultimately scoring on seven penalty kicks versus Freedom’s six.
This left the final score of the game at 1-1 (7-6), with Kewaskum winning their third straight regional championship. They will play Fox Valley Lutheran at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30 for the Sectional Semifinal.
