Two Campbellsport Girls Wrestlers Advance to State

Posted

On Feb. 21, the Campbellsport boys wrestling team started their day with a first-round victory over Lakeside Lutheran 43-34 at the WIAA Team Wrestling Sectional at Kewaskum.
The Cougars lost to Pewaukee 46-23 in the second round and then were knocked out of the tournament by their longtime rival, Kewaskum, 58-20, to finish their day in the Sectional tournament.
Campbellsport’s Logan Knoeck and Gavin Pickering finished their day with perfect 3-0 records in their sectional matches on the day.

On Feb. 20, Emerson Wissink and Savannah Ksioszk advanced to the WIAA Girls State Tournament after Ksioszk won the sectional championship, with Wissink finishing in second place in their weight classes at the Beaver Dam Sectional.

Ksioszk (46-7) won her first two matches by pin and technical fall to advance to the sectional final to face the 11th-ranked wrestler in the state, whom Ksioszk had lost to earlier in the season, but won the final by a 3-1 decision to be the 132-pound sectional champion as a freshman.
“After a scoreless first period, Savannah got a reversal and rode her out,” said Head Coach Dan Heisdorf. “In the third period, Savannah added an escape to make it 3-0, and I knew Savannah wasn’t going to be denied in the final because she was very determined.”
Ksioszk received an eight-seed at the WIAA Girls State Wrestling Tournament in her 132-pound weight class for the Cougars.
“Representing the Campbellsport wrestling program means so much to me with so much history, hard work, and heart behind this team,” said Savannah Ksioszk. “Making it to state allows me to represent not just myself, but my coaches, teammates, and everyone who has helped build this program.”
Emerson Wissink(40-8) started the day with a win against a returning state qualifier by a pin in the second period, and got another pin against the 16th-ranked wrestler in the state by getting another win by pin to advance to the sectional final.
“I felt really good about Emersen’s chances after that win, but she lost by a pin in the final to qualify for state,” said Heisdorf. “Emersen is a great story with only being her second year of wrestling, she went from 22-27 last year to 40-8 this year.”
Wissink got the 13th seed in her 126-pound weight class at the WIAA Girls State Tournament at the Kohl Center starting on Feb. 26.
“I’m proud to represent our program by showing how hard we work, and I want to compete in a way that reflects the dedication and culture our team has built,” said Emersen Wissink. “I wouldn’t be here without my coaches, teammates, and especially my practice partner, Savannah, who has pushed me every day with how we worked hard for this together.”
“Mya Schraufnagel (32-13) had a great comeback in her match, coming back from 12-3 to win 17-14, showing some grit in that match,” said Heisdorf. “Mya finished in fourth after losing to two ranked wrestlers.”
“Irelyn (31-14) lost her first match by fall after she had 8-5 entering the third period,” said Heisdorf. “Mya and Irelyn had a really good year, and I am proud of both of them.”
Campbellsport has four boys and two girls wrestlers going to the WIAA State Wrestling tournament at the Kohl Center on Feb. 26-28.
