Posted

The Cougars faced the Kewaskum Indians this past week on the Indian’ home court, King Pin Bowl in West Bend.
In game one of the match, the tone was set, and both teams came to bowl. The Cougars had only two opens but they ran the last five strikes to capture the first game 204 to 169 for the opener.
In match two, Abby Jarmuz clutched a spare in the tenth to take the second game 146 to 140.
In game three, the Indians came out strong and nipped the Cougars by 25 pins, 180 to 155.
In game four, the tide turned again, and the Cougars got rolling in the second half of the game and finished with a 169 to 139 for the Indians. The score was 3-1 with five games to go!

In game five, the Cougars struggled with spares and dropped the fifth game 179 to 137.
The sixth game proved to be a nail-biter, but Abby Jarmuz struck and spared to take the fourth win. The match now stood 4-2, Cougars.
In game seven, the Indians did a war dance to let the Cougars know they weren’t done yet, Indians 169 – Cougars 149.
The Indians continued their war dance and beat the Cougars 186-182. The match was tied going into the ninth game, and the Cougars’ undefeated season was on the line. You could feel the tension in the air as both teams wanted the win badly.
The Cougars opened twice in their first five frames and so did the Indians. The score was actually tied in the third through fifth frames and continued to be tied every frame before the 10th started. It was a dead heat going into the 10th frame. Kewaskum’s anchor got up and threw an eight-count in the tenth. Abby Jarmuz got up for the Cougars and threw an eight-count also. The match was riding on which anchor spared. The Indians’ anchor shot at her spare and only picked up one of the two pins. Now, it was Abby’s turn; destiny was in her hands, and the whole house was watching. What a decisive moment this was. Abby came through in the 10th, like she did all night. She picked up the spare and threw nine on her fill ball to take the game and the match 156-146.
Abby led her team with a career night, throwing 14 strikes and 10 spares. As a team, we put together our best performance of the year, averaging 161 to Kewaskum’s 161. Lillee Thorn was right behind Abby, filling 13 of 16 frames, Kendall Boegel 8 of 14, as was Genna Grahl. Ava Polzin and Viola
Schrauth chipped in 7 of 14.
Stats for the match were as follows (strikes-spares-total frames): Lillee Kiehnau 6-7-16; Kendall Boegel 2-6-14; Ava Polzin 2-5-14; Viola Schrauth 4-3-14; Abby Jarmuz 6-10-18; Genna Grahl 2-6-14.
The Cougars’ regular season is over and will begin tournament season next week, with a singles, team, and the State Tournament the first weekend in March. Good Luck, Cougars!
