On Thursday, Jan. 30, the boys varsity finished up the Flyway dual season by defeating North Fond du Lac/St. Mary Spring’s by a score of 54-28.
Erich Cappozzo, Conner Sitzberger, Porter Klotz, Zach Zimdahl, and Logan Knoeck all won by pin. Aydryan Meilahn, Brock Bentz, Emma Batzler, and Tony Hughley all won by forfeit.
In a girls varsity match against NFDL, sophomore Abigail Ksioszk came from behind and scored a takedown with 10 seconds left to win her match 13-11.
The Cougars ended up 6-1 in the Flyway and have to win the conference tournament to at least clinch a share of the conference championship. The conference tournament is at Mayville on Saturday, February 8. Wrestling starts at 10 a.m.
Girls Sixth at Stark Scramble
The Lady Cougar wrestlers competed in the 34-team Stark Scramble in Whitefish Bay and finished in sixth place.
Sophomore Irelyn Woolhether won the 107 pound championship. In the semifinals, she pinned the No. 2 seed and 13th ranked girl in the state who was 18-3. In the finals, she faced the No. 1 seed from Kettle Moraine who had a record of 17-1. Woolhether would build a 10-3 lead before
pinning her late in the second period. This is Woolhether’s third championship of the year.
Emma Batzler took second at 126 pounds. She got two pins and a major decision to earn her trip to the championship. She took on Taya Johnson of Menasha who is ranked third in the state. Johnson took a 3-0 lead into the second period, but Batzler would tie it up on a takedown of her own. Later in the third, down 5-3, Johnson would reverse Batzler and put her to her back to break the match open and get a 15-3 decision.
Mya Schraufnagel took third at 132. Mya would get two pins and a tech fall to get to the semifinals where she lost to a girl from Muskego. In the third place match, she faced another tough opponent, Natalie Flohr (23-7) from Menasha. In a tight match, Mya would take Flohr down and put her to her back and earn the pin to finish her day at 4-1.
Abigail Ksioszk took sixth place going 2-2 on the day. In Ksioszk’s first match, she got revenge on Ava Eibl of Westosha Central, who beat Ksioszk a few weeks ago. Ksioszk would build a 10-6 lead before earning the pin late in the third period.
Emerson Wissink took 10th at 120 pounds. Wissink used a nasty cradle to pin one of her opponents and lost an 11-8 decision in her match for ninth place.
The girls will have their conference tournament at North Fond du Lac on Friday night at 6 p.m. and then they will wrestle at Green Bay Preble on Saturday, February 8 with wrestling starting at 9 a.m.

Aiden Ohms went 2-2 in his bracket to finish in third place. Ben Sabish went 3-1 on his way to a sixth place finish. Tony Hughley would
finish in seventh place and Reed Scannell finished in 16th place.
