Cougar Wrestlers are Regional Runner-Ups

The boys wrestling team competed at the Kewaskum Regional on Saturday, February 15 and finished in second place as a team, thus qualifying them for the Team Sectional on Tuesday, February 18. The Cougars qualified nine wrestlers to Sectionals. Logan Knoeck, Jacob Allickson, Conner Siztberger, Porter Klotz, and Brock Bentz each won individual championships.
At 106 pounds, Logan Knoeck would make the championship by earning a technical fall and a pin. In the championship against Levi Schwarz of WLA, Knoeck found himself down by four with five seconds left. Knoeck got a point on a stalling call and then earned a takedown just before time expired to force overtime. He then defended a shot by Schwarz and got the takedown for the win.
At 113 pounds, Jacob Allickson had no problems winning his title. He earned a pin and major decision to get to the finals, where he pinned the number one seed, Wyatt Stowell of Waupun, in just 36 seconds.
At 165 pounds, Conner Sitzberger got a pin and major decision to get to the finals, where he met Moses Metzger of WLA. In another exciting match, Sitzberger found himself going into sudden death overtime tied at three. He used a great fireman’s carry to earn the takedown in overtime and win the championship.
At 175 pounds, Porter Klotz came in as the four seed, but he didn’t let that intimidate him as he pinned his way to the championship, knocking off the number one and two seeds in the process.

At 285 pounds, Brock Bentz also pinned all his opponents for his championship. He pinned Deacon Allen of Plymouth in the finals.
Erich Cappozzo qualified for sectionals by finishing second at 150 pounds. He earned two pins to make the finals, where he ran into defending state champion Bryston Scoles of Kewaskum. Cappozzo ended up getting tech falled and had to wrestleback for second place. He won that match 8-6 over Dawson Zur of Lake Country Lutheran.
The Cougars had three wrestlers take fourth place and quailify for sectionals. Gavin Pickering, at 144 pounds, clinched his birth by beating Sam Pearson of Sheboygan Falls 16-1. Aydryan Meilahn pinned the number one seed to help him earn his fourth place finish. Zach Zimdahl also finished in fourth place.
Ben Sabish, Tony Hughley, and Hudson McCarty also participated but did not place.
The Cougars will wrestle Jefferson on Tuesday, with the winner facing the winner of the Kewaskum/Delavan-Darien match for the right to go to Team State. Then on Saturday, February 22, the Cougars will be at Waupun for the Individual Sectional starting at 10 a.m. The top three from each weight class will move on to state.

Girls Qualify All Five
The Campbellsport girl wrestlers participated in the Cedar Grove Regional on Friday, February 14 and qualified all five girls to Sectionals. The team finished third behind first-place Neenah and second-place Chilton/Hilbert.
Freshman Mya Schraufnagel won the 132-pound championship. Schraufnagel scored 69 match points in her three matches, winning 24-6, 26-14 and in the championship match, 19-3.
Irelyn Woolhether took second place. She beat her first opponent 12-0, before losing 8-2 in the finals to Ashlynn Scheidermeyer of Neenah. Abigail Ksioszk finished in second place. She earned a 17-4 major decision to earn her trip to the finals, where she had the most exciting match of the night. She faced the number-one seed, Rayleigh Pearson of Neenah. Ksioszk ended up losing 7-4 in double overtime.
Emma Batzler would be the third wrestler to take second place. In a battle of state-ranked girls, Batzler lost to ninth-ranked Amari Richards of Neenah 13-0. Batzler earned a quick 36 pin to get to the finals.
Emersen Wissink lost her quarterfinal match and wrestled all the way back to finish in fourth. After her loss, she pinned her next two opponents putting her in the fourth place wrestleback against Haylee Lowe of New Holstein (19-6). Wissink left no doubt by building a six-point lead before pinning Lowe in the second period to earn her berth to sectionals.
The girls will wrestle Friday, February 21 at Menasha at 5 p.m. The top two from each weight class will qualify for state.
