The Kewaskum High School cross country team competed in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division 2, Sectional 5, race at Waupaca High School on Friday, Oct. 25.
Olivia Gerhartz qualified for the WIAA State Cross Country Championships at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday, November 2, with a second place finish and time of 20:00.6.
“Olivia went out and ran a great race. Getting out fast with the leader allowed her to position herself for a state run bid,” stated Coach Peterson.
As a team, the girls earned 182 points for seventh place. Following Olivia was Taylor Kulick in 21st, Ruby Gerhartz in 45th, Si Qi Gundrum in 49th, Lucia Perez in 65th, Makenna Poole in 75th, and Olivia Smedley in 81st.
Crossing the line first, at the same time, for the boys were Carter Heimerman (32nd) and Wyatt Luedtke (33rd) with a time of 18:27.5. Following the pair were Aaron Schmidt in 51st, Layton Dexter in 52nd, Leo Kohlwey in 56th, Elliot Schulz in 57th, and Bejanin Ebert in 60th. The boys placed eighth as a team with 224 points.
Coach Peterson added, “Both teams ran good races in tough competition on a di ult course, finishing around where they were ranked going into the meet.”
“All the runners worked hard this season,” said Coach Bicknell. “They put their best effort into this race. I was really proud of each and everyone of them. Through a long season of multiple injuries, countless illnesses and abnormally hot running days, the team stayed both physically and mentally strong. We are returning all of the varsity runners next year and are excited to see this team continue to develop.”
Si Qi Gundrum _nishes the Waupaca Sectional with a time of 23:10.9.
