Michael and Marielle Ruch are approaching their one-year anniversary of the purchase and subsequent opening of Palomino Pines Guest Ranch and Horse Company, formerly Paluso Guest Ranch, located in Kewaskum.
Their story to becoming the new owners, in 2024, starts with Michael, who was a ranch hand for Robert Paluso for several years, here in Wisconsin and in Colorado.
“I always was interested in taking over Bob’s operation and made that known to him,” said Michael.
While working here in Wisconsin, he met Marielle in the driveway of the ranch they now own together.
Before taking ownership of the ranch, the couple traveled to Colorado where Michael enjoyed “cowboy college,” as he likes to call it. He described it as a time where he was able to fully immerse himself in the ranching culture.
Bob came out to visit during that time, and shortly after, asked if Michael would like to go into business together. The next 14 months were spent working out the structure and financial details of the plan.
Now, Valentine’s Day, the day the Ruchs purchased Paluso Guest Ranch, and April Fools’ Day, the day they opened Palomino Pines, hold more than one meaning to the family.
About the RanchPalomino Pines boasts direct access to more than 40 miles of riding trails through the Kettle Moraine State Forest.
They have over 20 quarter horses and offer western-style riding lessons, trail rides, horse camps, a bed and breakfast experience, seasonal sleigh rides and more.
As a horse company, they provide opportunities where “horses can be boarded, bought, sold, bred and trained” at their facilities. They have a heated indoor arena, and the barn contains 24 heated 12x12 feet stalls, among other amenities.
